Moving house is almost always stressful. There are a few things you can do before moving that make the experience less taxing, and ensure a smooth transition from one home to the next.
We’ve put together a simple to-do list that’ll simplify the moving process:
Sell what you don’t need
Moving to a new house presents a unique opportunity to start over with a clean slate. Get rid of items you no longer need. Whether you choose to sell old items or donate them to charity, you’ll be impressed at how much space you’ll free up.
Start packing in advance
To avoid long nights of hurried, last-minute packing, you’ll want to get started a month or two in advance. If you manage to pack just one box or two boxes a day, you’ll be making your life much easier before moving day.
Change your address and get your mail forwarded
Contact your service providers and inform them of your change of address. Make sure that all your mail gets forwarded to the new address. You don’t want to end up losing out on any important correspondence later on.
Hire a professional cleaning company
If you can afford it, hire a professional cleaning company before moving day. You want to be sure you get your deposit back, and if the house is in a mess, you’re less likely to do so.
Get a list of things you’re not allowed to move
Some common household items will not be handled by a professional moving company. Household plants and flammable objects are on the list. Find a way to either dispose of these items or move them safely yourself.
A few simple steps will ensure that your pre-move preparations go smoothly. There’s absolutely no reason to stress yourself out when you can make your life that much easier. It’s all about pre-empting any problems that may arise, and dealing with them accordingly.
